Rū Whenua

Rū Whenua Kaitoko whānau is Te Ora Hou’s earthquake support response to assist Māori whānau in Ōtautahi. The primary objective is whānau self-determination which is achieved through support from a Kaitoko Whānau Ora Kaimahi who works alongside vulnerable whānau to identify their priorities and support them to navigate the myriad of post-earthquake services.

The following areas are the key focus:

  • Early Childhood – ensuring all tamariki and whānau are participating in quality early childhood programmes or attending school regularly and that all tamariki have up to date vaccinations
  • Accommodation – all whānau have accessed quality housing solutions and where necessary have accessed quality professional support and advice and that all homeowners are participating in the EECA home insulation programme
  • Education – whānau members are successfully prepared for and transitioned into further education, training and employment opportunities
